In-home care FAQs
Questions families often ask
What does an in-home PSW help with?+
A PSW may assist with agreed personal-support and daily-living routines such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, meals, and mobility support. Exact tasks are confirmed as part of the non-medical service plan.
How do I get started with in-home support?+
We discuss the person’s requested support, location, preferences, and schedule, then clarify service scope and availability before visits are arranged.
Can I arrange care for my parent?+
Yes. A family member can contact ApexHealth to discuss support. We encourage involving the person receiving care in decisions and respecting their preferences and consent.
Can you provide companionship and homemaking?+
Yes. Depending on the requested service and availability, visits can include companionship, light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, errands, and other agreed non-medical household support.
Do you provide overnight support?+
We can discuss overnight and live-in support based on the household’s needs, requested duties, schedule, and staffing availability. Coverage arrangements are confirmed in advance; continuous 24-hour care is not implied.
Can I arrange respite support?+
We can discuss planned non-medical respite visits to give a family caregiver time for work, appointments, rest, or other responsibilities, subject to service fit and availability.
Can ApexHealth support someone living with dementia?+
We can discuss non-medical personal support and companionship, including reassurance, redirection, and agreed daily routines, based on the person's needs and service fit. We do not provide diagnosis, clinical dementia treatment, or nursing care.
Does ApexHealth provide in-home support for veterans?+
Yes. Veterans and their families can contact ApexHealth to discuss non-medical personal support, companionship, homemaking, respite, or overnight support. Services depend on the requested tasks, location, and availability. We do not provide medical or clinical care, and families should confirm any benefits or funding eligibility directly with the relevant program.
Do you provide medication management?+
No. ApexHealth does not manage, prescribe, or administer medication. A support worker may provide an agreed reminder as part of a suitable non-medical support plan; medication decisions and clinical oversight remain with the client, family, pharmacist, or licensed healthcare provider.
How many hours of support can I schedule?+
Visit length and frequency depend on the requested tasks, schedule, location, and available staffing. Contact us to discuss possible arrangements.
Where does ApexHealth provide in-home support?+
ApexHealth focuses on Windsor and Essex County, Toronto and the GTA. Other Ontario requests may be considered based on location, service needs, and staffing availability.
How is home care different from a retirement home?+
They are different options and may suit different people. In-home support provides agreed help during scheduled visits in a person’s home; a retirement home provides a residential setting and its own services. Families should compare the person’s needs, preferences, costs, and available supports.
Does ApexHealth provide nursing or medical care?+
No. ApexHealth provides non-medical support. Nursing, clinical assessment, treatment, and medical advice should be arranged with appropriately licensed healthcare providers.
