A home walkthrough can help families spot everyday obstacles. Needs differ from person to person, so use this checklist to start a conversation—not as a medical or mobility assessment.
Clear common walking paths
- Move loose cords, clutter, and small objects away from frequently used routes.
- Keep hallways, entrances, and paths to the bathroom clear and well lit.
- Check that rugs and mats lie flat and do not slide underfoot.
- Keep everyday items within comfortable reach to reduce unnecessary climbing or stretching.
Review lighting and everyday routines
- Check lighting around stairs, entrances, hallways, and commonly used rooms.
- Notice whether carrying laundry, meals, or other items makes a routine harder to manage safely.
- Discuss who to contact if a family member notices a new concern or change in routine.
Ask for an individualized review when needed
If there have been falls, changes in balance, difficulty using stairs, or questions about mobility equipment or home modifications, ask a physician or an appropriate licensed professional, such as an occupational therapist or physiotherapist, for individualized advice. For urgent or emergency concerns, contact emergency services.
ApexHealth support is non-medical. A support worker can assist with agreed daily routines and safety awareness but cannot assess fall risk or recommend clinical treatment or equipment.
